While I agree that Apple's primary business motivation is protecting library content from sharing, I'm continually astounded at the level of arrogance and deliberate difficulty at each touch point (retail, customer service, online) within Apple.

I don't know what's more baffling to me -- the eager, unrequited adoration so many people have for Apple, or the abuse they enjoy heaping out. They seem to be following the time-honored methodology of destroying a good business: Good products marred by lousy service leads to inevitable customer backlash.

Apple – like all other software developers - faces a tradeoff between ease of use and customization. They’re amazing at the former and utterly horrible at the latter precisely because they cater to the lowest common denominator. But that comes at a cost because any user that deviates from the norm quickly realizes that it’s time to drop the toy and pick up an actual tool.
